Uh-Oh... AKIRA Is Forced To Shut Down Production!

Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated, live-action version of Japanese manga AKIRA has certainly facing a lot of setbacks ranging from casting problems, script and budget issues. Now that the long-gestating movie is finally back into production with Garrett Hedlund already cast as Kaneda and Jaume Collet-Serra attached as director, AKIRA is facing another huge setback -- this time the movie is forced to shut down production in Vancouver offices with below-the-line talent and crew are being told to stop working. According to an insider, "Everybody is being sent home".

So what really happened? Contrary to most report, Warner Bros. wants to further reduce the US$90 million budget to either $60 million or $70 million -- which is ironically suffers the same fate like what Disney did with THE LONE RANGER. Others claim it is issues with script and cast (again?). Could this be an omen that the live-action version of AKIRA is never meant to happen at all?
